Careers In Medical Diagnostic

Demand for skilful and experienced healthcare workers is on the rise and will continue to remain so in the future to fulfill the requirements of our swiftly aging population. So if you are looking forward to explore the field of allied healthcare then choosing diagnostic medical imaging as your career option will be a wise decision.

Diagnostic imaging covers several allied healthcare specialties related to the imaging sciences. We will discuss here three primary fields that include: radiologic technology, ultrasound technology, and nuclear medicine technology.

Radiologic technology:

Radiologic technology, usually referred as x-ray technology, is possibly the largest of diagnostic imaging fields. The job profile of a radiologic technologist involves taking x-rays in hospital, office, and clinical settings. The duration of the training program is generally 2-4 years and can be pursued by either obtaining bachelor degree or associate degree. On obtaining the degree you can further advance your career by receiving state-of-the-art training in several specialties that include, MRI, Cat Scan, mammography, and interventional radiology.

Nuclear medicine:

Nuclear medicine uses radioactive materials within the body to generate images used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Nuclear medicine technologists are involved in the preparation of radioisotopes and operation of the nuclear medicine camera. They are generally employed with hospitals, imaging centers and cardiology offices.

Ultrasound technology:

Ultrasound refers as the science of generating diagnostic medical images with the help of sound waves. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, are responsible for the operation of the equipment which helps in the generation of images. Sonographers will get the job at hospitals, private offices and free standing imaging centers. In addition, there are several specialty areas available for sonographers with advanced training which include ob-gyn, cardiology, breast sonography, and neurosonography.
